Position description The Nh Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine, invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in the broad area of artificial intelligence (AI). We seek outstanding candidates who have expertise in one or more aspects of fundamentals of AI, e. g., novel AI paradigms, models, and computing architectures to support them; data-efficient and high-performance AI techniques and systems; the interpretability and controllability of AI systems; security, privacy and safety for AI; methodologies for evaluation and benchmarking. In addition to expertise in fundamentals of AI, we seek candidates who can contribute to key application domains such as embodied/physical AI (autonomous robotics, drones, self-driving cars); AI-driven cyber-physical systems (including manufacturing, transportation, power grids); AI for acceleration of scientific discovery (materials science, heat transfer, climate science, etc); AI for energy production; and the convergence with quantum information science. At the time of hire, applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited university. Successful candidates will be innovative leaders that can develop a vigorous externally funded research program, maintain a strong publication record, advise students, and provide outstanding teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
