Grade Salary/Wage Starting salary range:
$84,712.56 - $134,411.78 annually. Academic training and teaching experience will form the basis for salary computation as determined by placement on the regular salary schedule of the College. Primary Function The Assistant Professor/Counselor (Two Positions) will be primarily responsible for providing academic, personal, and career counseling services including developing educational plans and delivering follow-up services to students. This recruitment is for two counselor positions.
Position One:
Assistant Professor/Counselor - Generalist; for the Counseling department.
Position Two:
Assistant Professor/Counselor - Early College Credit; for the Office of Early College Credit. Minimum Qualifications Must meet one of the sets of qualifications listed under 1) through 3): A Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling. A Bachelor's degree in any of the disciplines listed in a) above AND a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), pursuant to Title 5, Section 53410.1 of the California Code of Regulations. A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of the qualifications in either 1) or 2) above. Duties and Responsibilities In addition to the counseling responsibilities, other duties and institutional responsibilities include maintaining regular office hours, developing curriculum, program review and planning, developing and assessing student learning outcomes, and participating in department activities and college governance.
Related duties include the following:
Meeting students in individual and group settings to provide academic, career and personal counseling services. In partnership with students, developing comprehensive and abbreviated educational plans. Participating in target counseling and other support activities to improve access, retention, persistence, and academic goal attainment for disproportionately impacted students. Utilizing multiple computer applications and resources, including electronic data entry documenting the delivery of core student success services and the maintenance of related reporting elements. Keeping current with the Palomar College curricula as well as articulation and transfer requirements to other colleges and universities. Teaching counseling classes and developing related counseling curriculum as needed. Administering and interpreting appropriate career assessments. Developing and conducting workshops relevant to student success. Participating in outreach, orientation, and retention efforts on and off campus. Providing counseling services in a variety of settings including military bases, detention facilities, online, and other community locations. Supporting student success activities in collaboration with instructional divisions as needed. Performing other duties as required.
Additional duties may include:
Position One - Assisting in Career Center and Transfer Center activities. Serving in department leadership positions as Counseling Department Chairperson, Transfer Center Faculty Coordinator, or Career Center Faculty Coordinator. Collaborating with and supporting counseling programs such as Puente, Umoja, Student Success, and other programs. Position Two - Developing programs and student support services designed to increase access, retention, and graduation rates for Early College Credit students. Collaborating with departments throughout the college and K-12 partners to facilitate student engagement and promote the success of Early College Credit students. Assisting with pathway development from credit by exam to dual and concurrent enrollment leading to program completion at the college. Providing education plans, career development, and college readiness support to help students navigate high school graduation and college degree requirements. Participating in Early College Credit outreach and retention initiatives including planning and assisting in workshops, projects, and other activities in high school, college, and virtual settings. Monitoring eligibility, academic progress, and performance of Early College Credit students for data collection and reporting purposes to support data driven decision making.
