Fairfield University is a co-educational, comprehensive Jesuit university with a 200-acre campus located along the scenic shoreline community of Fairfield, CT. The University is comprised of approximately 5,700 undergraduate and 1,500 graduate students pursuing degrees within 5 schools: The John Charles Meditz College of Arts and Sciences, the Charles F. Dolan School of Business, the School of Engineering, the Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies, and the School of Education and Human Development. The Department of English at Fairfield University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English/African Diaspora Literature position, starting Fall 2027. The primary teaching responsibility will be undergraduate courses for English majors and in the University's Magis Core curriculum. Areas of specialization may include African American literature, Caribbean literature, or other literatures of the African Diaspora. Secondary fields of interest include Indigenous and Black convergences in the African Diaspora, gender and sexuality in the African Diaspora, queer diasporas, decolonial studies and movements, and abolition movements. The University seeks candidates who are ready to participate in its interdisciplinary programs, including Black Studies; Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; Latinx, Latin American and Caribbean Studies; and/or American Studies. The position carries a 3-3 course teaching load and includes the opportunity to develop new courses in the candidate's area of expertise, a one-semester, pre-tenure research leave, and subsequent sabbaticals.
