Position Description Summary:

Japan-US Relations:

The George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs and Department of Political Science invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position beginning as early as Fall 2027. The successful candidate will hold the Chair of Japan-US Relations in the Elliott School and be jointly appointed in the GW Political Science Department. The School and Department's research and teaching interests include Japanese politics, Japanese foreign policy, and Japan-US relations. The position is open to scholars in both comparative politics and international relations. Japanese language skills and a record of research in Japan are highly appreciated. We seek applicants who demonstrate strong potential for achievement in scholarship and excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Teaching responsibilities will include high-quality courses for undergraduate and graduate students in the Elliott School and Political Science Department, and the candidate should maintain flexibility in terms of the eventual teaching portfolio. The position will be affiliated with the Elliott School's Sigur Center for Asian Studies and M.A. program in Asian Studies. Elliott School faculty maintain engagement with policy issues and the policy community as a general criteria for appointment.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in political science or closely related field (such as government, politics, public policy, or international relations) with a primary focus on Japan. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or complete all requirements for the Ph.D. by the date of appointment. Applications at the mid-level or senior assistant professor level will also be strongly considered.

Advertised Salary:

$105,000-$125,000
