The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Berry College seeks a dynamic artist and educator at the assistant professor level (tenure track) to teach digital art in the Art Program. Over the last several years, the Art Program at Berry College has seen an ever-expanding interest in the artistic application of digital technologies from students across the college. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the use of a broad range of digital technologies in the visual arts and their applications across disciplines. This position will support the current digital art curriculum while reimagining what our digital art curriculum could look like. Additionally, we are seeking someone with a strong research practice who is passionate about teaching and mentoring students at a residential liberal arts college. This position will complement and support existing areas in art history, ceramics/ sculpture, and drawing/painting/printmaking. The successful candidate will be committed to supporting the Art Program's mission of creating an environment that promotes creativity and a deep engagement with the creation and history of art. The position starts in August 2027. The successful candidate will join a program that values experimentation, collaboration, and attention to craft while helping students gain hands-on, real-world experiences in the visual arts during their time at Berry. In line with the mission of the college, this position offers opportunities to support student work, community service and engagement, and student research, while promoting access to professional artists. The annual teaching load is 18 hours. Initially, the new faculty will be responsible for teaching existing design courses such as Two-Dimensional Design, Digital Imaging, Graphic Design, and Visual Design for UI, as well as supporting the Studio Art capstone and general education courses. This position carries the expectation of building a new direction for digital art at Berry that is impactful for Art majors/minors, as well as students working across a range of disciplines. This could encompass fields ranging from applied design to animation to new media to social practice.

Requirements:

Applicants should have earned a terminal degree (MFA or Ph.D.) in a studio art discipline by the date of employment. Further, they should possess classroom experience as an instructor or teaching assistant in digital technologies, while being fluent in course-appropriate applications with the Adobe Creative Cloud. Finally, the successful candidate will share our program's commitment to student engagement inside and outside of the classroom, as well as our interest in promoting opportunities for students.
