The Sociology and Anthropology Department at Berry College seeks applicants for a tenure-track position in sociology. We seek a sociologist who will bring a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, mentorship, and research. We especially welcome candidates with experience in applied sociology, community-engaged teaching or research, or other forms of public-facing sociological practice who can contribute to the department's strong commitment to Academic Community Engagement (ACE). This is an open position with preference given to candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: social stratification, health and medicine, social movements, family and the life course, or other areas with strong undergraduate appeal. Applicants should demonstrate how their teaching, service, and scholarship will broaden students' understanding of sociological theory while connecting sociological knowledge to real-world problems, research, professional opportunities, and service. The candidate should also be eager to mentor students pursuing various pathways after graduation, including graduate study and careers involving research, policy, community practice, business, law, teaching, urban and regional planning, health care, and related fields. The department has been integral to Academic Community Engagement (ACE) learning at Berry, and we seek a candidate who will develop students' sociological imagination and expand opportunities for hands-on experience in sociology and related academic programs like pre-law, business, and the pre-professional health science program. The annual teaching load is 18 hours, typically consisting of three sections of Introduction to Sociology, two electives, and a quantitatively focused course, either the department's required senior capstone course or Introduction to Research Methods.
