Job Description

Purpose:
Holy Cross College invites applications from specialists in the philosophy of Thomas Aquinas for the position of Assistant Professor of Philosophy (tenure track), to begin July 2027. The successful candidate will have a passion for teaching undergraduate students and for research in the philosophy of Thomas Aquinas. Holy Cross's multinational faculty, staff, and student body collaborate to create a unique learning environment, where mission permeates our approach to student formation. The Assistant Professor of Philosophy is a full-time, tenure-track position in the Department of Humanities. Responsibilities will include teaching twelve (12) credit hours of courses per semester. The faculty member is expected to enhance the mission of the College as stated above.
Essential Job Duties:
All administrators, faculty and staff are called to assist students in their formation to be Christ-like stu dents and thus must embrace and advance the Holy Cross mission of the College in all professional activities. Assist students in seeing the relevance of the Catholic intellectual tradition to this particular field of study and to guide students in scholarly conversation about this topic. Teach eight (24-credit hours) per year of undergraduate philosophy courses in a program that includes the fundamental elements of philosophy as a discipline (history of philosophy, logic, epistemology, etc.) and the essential components of a program of priestly formation as defined by the USCCB, such as metaphysics, philosophy of nature, ethics, and philosophical anthropology. Assume leadership and service roles as they emerge in the Philosophy Program, the Department of Humanities, and the College. Conduct office hours on campus Meet regularly with the Director of the Philosophy Program and the Chair of the Humanities Department Participate in the life of the College by serving on administrative committees and attending important events such as Welcome Weekend, Faculty-Staff Convocation, Constitution Day, Honors Convocation, Baccalaureate Mass, and Commencement Other responsibilities as assigned to meet the needs of the Department and the
College Minimum Education, Skills, and Ability:
A Ph. D. (or ABD) in Philosophy Positive work experience in a Catholic college/university preferred Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population Commitment to the Mission of Holy Cross College A vivid, ongoing, open-minded appreciation of the liberal arts.
