Academic Job Description:
The Department of English at Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of British literature and culture of the Long 18th Century (1660-1830), beginning in August of 2027. Located in Baton Rouge, LSU is the flagship land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant institution in Louisiana and a Research 1 (R1) University. We support research and teaching in a broad range of fields and many interdisciplinary programs.
Requirements:
Ph.D., with expertise in British literature and culture of the Long 18th Century (1660-1830), by the time the position begins (August 2027); record of publication or strong promise of future scholarly achievement. Preference given to candidates who can teach and direct undergraduate and graduate research on literature of the entire period.
Teaching Expectations:
The teaching load is 2/2 and includes graduate and undergraduate courses in Long 18th-Century British literature and culture. The new hire in this position is expected to teach undergraduate courses in the annual rotations of English 3020 (
British Literature I:
The Middle Ages, Renaissance, and 18th Century) and English 3022 (
British Literature II:
Romantics, Victorians, and Moderns) and to serve on graduate dissertation committees. They will also have the opportunity to design new courses and work with existing interdisciplinary programs and collaborations.
Research Expectations:
Competitive candidates should maintain an active scholarly profile on par with the expectations of a Research 1 Institution. The College provides support for research and faculty development.
