Job Description The Assistant Professor of Chemistry performs teaching duties and professional service for the College. This is accomplished by providing instruction as assigned; conducting and assessing instruction; developing and/or modifying curriculum; assisting students through academic advising; establishing, posting, and maintaining office hours; providing leadership for the development, growth, and support of the College and the assigned area; and undertaking professional community service. Other duties include supporting the mission, vision and values of the College and policies of the Board of Trustees; serving on various College committees, task forces and other groups; and participating in various official College ceremonies and meetings. This is a 1 term faculty position for the Fall of 2026. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching General Chemistry I and General Chemistry II offered during the day and afternoon. This is a 10-month, one-year position scheduled to begin August 2026. Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement. Required Education Master's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely related field is required. Required Experience One year of full-time, college-level teaching experience or the equivalent adjunct teaching, preferably in a community college setting, is required. Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Applicants must have: Experience or ability using evidence-based pedagogies in chemistry instruction. Experience or ability in assessing student learning to document learning outcomes. Demonstrated competency with Learning Management Systems (LMS). Physical requirements include the ability to conduct laboratory exercises and assist students with laboratory skills. A teaching demonstration will be part of the interview process. Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates with: Doctorate in chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely related field Hours per Week 40 - 100% General Weekly Work Schedule Classes Start August 24th Full-time faculty teach 15 contact hours per week in the Fall and Spring semester.
