Position Overview Primary Purpose of the Position Faculty in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Sport Studies at Winston-Salem State University invite applications for a nine-month tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Sport Management. This position will begin in August 2027. We seek exceptional candidates with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence as well as mentoring and advising students inside and outside the classroom. The successful candidate must produce scholarly research that results in publications in peer-reviewed journals. Additionally, the faculty member will facilitate presentations at well-respected professional conferences and engage in the procurement of extramural funds with interdisciplinary teams. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with interests in working collaboratively to enhance the strengths of curricular and co-curricular programs across the arts, humanities, social sciences, business, and education. Applicant Must:
Have a doctoral degree in Sport Management or a related discipline from a regionally accredited four-year institution of higher education. Provide evidence of mentoring students through experiential learning with a focus in Sport Management. Have the ability to participate in interdisciplinary teaching and research collaborations at the university, across universities, or within the broader community. Demonstrate the ability to participate in interdisciplinary teaching and research collaborations with professional colleagues at the university, across universities, or within the broader public. Demonstrate experience in the sport industry and an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance curricular and co-curricular programs. Illustrate a commitment to their professional growth and development via engagement in professional organizations and professional conferences. Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education Faculty in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Sport Studies prefer candidates who: Have experience teaching and enhancing curriculum. Have experience in program assessment. Have leadership experience within professional organizations. These duties include, but are not limited to the following: Teaching and Mentoring The successful candidate will: Teach Sport Management courses primarily face-to-face, but should have the ability to teach in online and hybrid formats. Construct detailed course syllabi. Facilitate high-quality, engaging instruction. Leverage various technologies (e.g., Canvas, EAB Navigate) to communicate regularly with students, monitor student progress, and provide feedback on student success outcomes. Engage with students during mandatory office hours each week. Work collaboratively to enhance the strengths of our Sport Management curricular and co-curricular programs.
