Assistant Professor of English (Composition and Writing Studies)

FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Position Details The Department of English at The City College of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a full-time tenure- track Assistant Professor in Composition and Writing Studies, with a particular specialization in multilingual writing pedagogies. Additional experience in one or more of the following areas is also preferred: literacy studies; language studies; adult teaching and learning; basic writing; translingual writing; digital literacies; critical AI studies; disability studies; service learning; and writing program administration and assessment. The position will begin in the Fall of 2027. We seek candidates with an established and growing record of publication and evidence of effective teaching at the college level. The successful candidate will be expected to teach classes at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including first-year writing courses, upper-division courses in language, writing, and rhetoric, and graduate courses in our MA in Language & Literacy - an interdisciplinary program that prepares future teachers of adults in diverse educational programs. The standard workload for this position is 18 credits per year (a 3/3 teaching load). The candidate will also be expected to maintain an active agenda of publication and participate in student mentoring and departmental and college service activities in a large public university setting. We seek applicants motivated to collaborate with a strong team of creative writing and literature faculty in a thriving Hispanic- and Minority-Serving Institution located in Harlem. QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in composition/writing studies, or a related field. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Preferred Qualifications a Ph.D. in composition/writing studies or related discipline in hand by August 1, 2027 Evidence of a productive research agenda in composition/writing studies Demonstrable experience and success in teaching at the college or university level

COMPENSATION

Salary Range:

$79,630 - $94,017 CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs.
