Job Summary The College of Education and Psychology at the University of Texas at Tyler invites for a tenure-track appointment for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Special Education in the School of Education. We are particularly interested in candidates who have demonstrated expertise in (a) teacher education/special education, (b) teaching a mix of hybrid, online, and face-to-face courses, and (c) working with local area schools. The position will begin in Fall 2025. This is a 9-month academic appointment plus summer support and responsibilities. Essential Functions Duties include, but are not limited to: Pursue an active scholarly research agenda. Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in teacher education and special education. Obtain external extramural funding to support research, training, and service activities. Actively support local area schools. Provide service to the field and profession at the local, state, and national levels. Contribute to the university, the East Texas community, and the profession through service and outreach activities. Required Qualifications An earned doctorate in Special Education or a closely related field by the time of appointment. A minimum of three (3) years of PK-12 teaching experience. Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with various education stakeholders, including K-12 teachers, school and district leaders, teacher educators, coaches/mentors, and preservice teachers. Evidence of ability to conduct a focused and sustained research agenda. Preferred Qualifications Teaching experiences in special education, such as instructional methods for students with varying abilities, differentiation, assessment, positive behavioral interventions, and classroom management. Experience with online or hybrid course delivery. Evidence of scholarship as measured by peer-reviewed products. Additional Information The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
