Job Description

Norfolk State University invites candidates for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Journalism, for its ACEJMC accredited Department of Mass Communications and Journalism. This nine-month, full-time, tenure-track position, expected to begin August 2027, shall have the following duties and responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in introduction to media, news writing, cross-platform journalism, and other journalism-related courses, engage in exemplary teaching and effective student advising, contribute to scholarly endeavors and stay abreast of scholarship and new trends in the field, take on opportunities to conduct research and grantsmanship, regularly attend and participate in departmental, college and University required meetings and events, collegially engage with faculty and staff and adhere to deadlines. Minimum Qualifications Possess a Ph.D. in Mass Communications or related discipline. (ABD considered, with Ph.D. required by time of appointment) Teaching experience in introduction to media, news writing, cross-platform journalism, and other journalism-related courses. Research experience in journalism topics. Additional Considerations A record of professional integrity, collegiality, and commitment to diversity. Professional media experience relevant to the position. Demonstrated skill in distance learning via online modalities. Minimum salary is $62,000
