Part-Time Lecturer Pool Position

POSITION AVAILABLE

: One or more temporary, part-time lecturers for a pool from which instructors will be considered for appointments as they become available for Fall Semester 2026, and/or Spring Semester 2027.

THE DEPARTMENT

: The Department of Communication prepares students for success through the acquisition of skills in research, critical and cultural analysis, rhetoric, writing, electronic/digital communication, strategic communication, and media production/journalism. It prepares students for a broad array of career paths in public relations, advertising, media production, digital media, corporate and non-profit communication, news, and many other careers. The Department enjoys a highly diverse student body with more than 400 undergraduates as well as a Master of Arts program. Undergraduate majors choose from among three concentrations: Strategic Communication, Media Production, and Communication & Media Studies.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION

: Teach coursework in one or more of the following areas according to qualifications: Multimedia Journalism, Media Production, Photojournalism, Public Relations, Advertising, Communication Organizational Studies, Media Studies, Research Methods, Rhetoric, Argumentation, Public Speaking, and Interpersonal Communication. Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online. The policy and expectation of the California State University is that all faculty members will perform all of their duties within the state of California.

RANK AND SALARY

: Lecturer. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Position appointment is subject to budgetary authorization. The salary schedule information for the Lecturer

• $15,211 The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.

DATE OF APPOINTMENT

: Fall Semester begins August 17, 2026; Spring Semester begins January 19, 2027.

QUALIFICATIONS

: Minimum qualifications include a suitable Master's degree in an area of specialization; Ph.D. preferred.

Photojournalism and Media Production coursework:

candidates with experience producing documentaries, media in other countries, and/or media for social justice are preferred.

All coursework:

candidates may be asked to provide evidence of scholarship, creative work, or teaching via peer-review of teaching student-faculty evaluations; syllabi; course assignments; and samples of student work.
