Description :

The University of Houston-Downtown Criminal Justice Program is seeking candidates for the non-tenure track position of Criminal Justice Lecturer and Field Placement (Internship) Coordinator to start in Spring, 2027. The normal course load for a lecturer position is 5/5 (five 3-credit-hour courses each Fall and Spring). The course load for this position will be at least 3/3 (three 3-credit-hour courses each Fall and Spring); the successful candidate will receive course releases commensurate with the semesterly workload required to serve the Field Experience Coordinator role. The successful candidate will teach in various modalities (in-person, online, hybrid, and/or hyflex). In addition, the hired individual will have completed a Master's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related field. The successful candidate must have 18 graduate-level hours in Criminal Justice or Criminology.

Coordinator Job Description:

Under the direction of the Director of Field Experience, the Lecturer/Coordinator will help run the operations of the criminal justice field experience program, which includes but is not limited to recruiting and maintaining field placement sites, preparing and orienting students to the field experience process, meeting with and orienting students, and matching students with field placements Troubleshoot field experience issues/concerns As necessary, engage in field experience work during the winter break As necessary, engage in compensated field experience work during the summer

Preferred Qualifications:

The Department of Criminal Justice and Social Work offers degree plans leading to the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Criminal Justice, the Master of Science in Criminal Justice, the Bachelor of Social Work, and Masters in Social Work degrees.

The criminal justice programs serve traditional and non-traditional student populations with diverse backgrounds and professional interests.
