Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
The role of Education Specialist at the R. Roger Rowe Elementary School is to case-manage students with disabilities. This includes facilitating each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) by providing instruction, supervising the work of instructional aides, and collaborating with teachers and other service providers. Our Education Specialists are expected to be familiar with conducting academic achievement assessments, developing IEPs, and leading IEP meetings. Education Specialists must also use data to monitor progress throughout the year and make adjustments to student programs when indicated. Additionally, Education Specialists may address functional or vocational skills, social and mainstreaming opportunities, and/or maladaptive behaviors. Our Special Education team works closely with each other to integrate a variety of perspectives and professional expertise to provide services to students with disabilities. Collaboration between Special Education staff, general education teachers, and administrators is critical to providing a supportive environment for each student in our care.
