Reporting to the Principal and/or Assistant Principal the Master Teacher supports the Principal and Assistant Principal in his/her leadership of the school's academic program. While the exact responsibilities of this position may vary based on placement ( i.e. Lower, Middle, High School), the Master Teacher works to achieve the academic priorities of the school in their concentration. Job Summary The Special Education Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring that the school's special education programs comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and applicable Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) requirements. This position works collaboratively with school leaders, teachers, related service providers, and families to ensure students receive appropriate services while maintaining accurate documentation and compliance records. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Monitor compliance with IDEA, Section 504, state regulations, and local policies. Review and audit Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with legal timelines. Track annual reviews, reevaluations, evaluations, eligibility determinations, and other required compliance deadlines. Maintain accurate and confidential student special education records. Collaborate with school administrators, special education teachers, related service providers, and general education staff to ensure implementation of IEPs. Provide technical assistance and guidance regarding special education policies, procedures, and compliance requirements. Assist in preparing documentation for state monitoring, audits, and compliance reviews. Coordinate responses to compliance findings and develop corrective action plans when necessary. Monitor special education caseloads, service minutes, and documentation. Ensure procedural safeguards and parent notifications are provided within required timelines. Support eligibility meetings, IEP meetings, manifestation determination reviews, and other required meetings as needed. Maintain compliance reports and provide regular updates to school leadership. Assist with dispute resolution, state complaints, due process requests, and mediation documentation when applicable. Coordinate with the Louisiana Department of Education regarding compliance reporting and monitoring activities. Facilitate professional development for staff on special education compliance requirements and best practices. Perform other duties as assigned. QualificationsEducation Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred. Certification Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate with Special Education certification preferred. Educational Leadership certification is preferred but not required. Experience Minimum of three years of experience in special education. Experience writing and implementing IEPs. Experience with IDEA, Section 504, and Louisiana special education regulations. Experience with compliance monitoring, auditing, or educational administration preferred.
