Job Description

Boston Children's Hospital seeks an SPD Training Specialist to lead education and competency programs for Sterile Processing Department staff. In this role, you will design and deliver orientation, ongoing training, and skills assessments to ensure safe, accurate instrument reprocessing that meets AAMI, AORN, and hospital standards. You will partner with SPD leaders and perioperative teams to identify learning needs, update curricula, support new technologies, and promote best practices that reduce risk and enhance patient safety in a fast-paced pediatric environment. Responsibilities Design and deliver orientation and ongoing education for SPD staff Develop and maintain training materials, competencies, and checklists Conduct hands-on skills validation and annual competency assessments Monitor compliance with AAMI, AORN, and hospital sterilization standards Collaborate with perioperative and infection prevention teams on best practices Identify training needs using audits, quality data, and staff feedback Support implementation of new instruments, equipment, and workflows Maintain training records, reports, and documentation for regulatory readiness Coach and mentor SPD staff to promote continuous learning and safety culture Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to instrument processing Required Skills Sterile processing procedures Instrument tracking systems Adult learning principles Curriculum development Infection prevention standards Regulatory compliance (AAMI, AORN, The Joint Commission) Classroom and hands-on training delivery Competency assessment Data reporting and documentation Hospital safety protocols
