Job Summary As the Ethnic Studies Specialist, you will lead collaborative statewide initiatives that strengthen the capacity of Minnesota schools to provide high quality Ethnic Studies education so that all students achieve state academic standards and are prepared with knowledge and skills for postsecondary and career success.

Duties will include:

Develop and maintain a statewide system of training and support that helps districts fully implement the Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards, specifically those related to Ethnic Studies through aligned instruction, curriculum, assessment and professional development. Support districts interested in scaling up Ethnic Studies education with conducting needs assessments, providing support for district coordinators, and other resources for successfully implementing ethnic studies. Provide guidance on standards, graduation requirements, and related state policies, especially those related to ethnic studies. Gather, analyze, and report date to inform policies and practices related to standards-based education, especially those related to ethnic studies. Facilitate communications processes, planning activities and fiscal agreements that further the mission and goals of the division and department.

Telework:

This position is eligible for hybrid telework. Employees living within 50 miles of the office location listed above will be required to work in the office at least 50% of the time each month. Employees may reside outside the state of Minnesota if they live in a state bordering Minnesota and are within 50 miles of the primary work location. Existing employees who were approved to telework from a bordering state and more than 50 miles from their work location before June 1, 2025, may retain this arrangement unless they move farther away. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held. Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for this position. Five (5) years of experience as a grades K-12 classroom educator with a demonstrated professional learning or coursework in ethnic studies pedagogy. A Doctorate degree may substitute for two years of experience; A Master's degree may substitute for 18 months of experience; A Bachelor's degree may substitute for one year of experience; and an Associate's degree may substitute for six months of experience. Experience must include experience leading professional development. Preferred Qualifications More than five (5) years of experience as a grades K-12 classroom educator with a demonstrated professional learning or coursework in ethnic studies pedagogy. Minnesota teaching license. Experience teaching ethnic studies and/or social studies in grades 6-12. Experience developing and facilitating professional development for educators around academic standards and assessments. Experience with organizing and synthesizing large sets of data and information in spreadsheets and databases.
