Learn more about MIGIZI and our mission. About the Role At MIGIZI, we operate four key programs: First Person Productions, the Green Tech Institute, CLAW, and our Best Buy Teen Tech Center. This position is focused on the Green Tech Institute, which provides essential academic and cultural support for Native youth after school and during the summer. The Green Tech Institute Science Education Specialist is responsible for implementing after-school and summer internship programming to develop youth in personal and professional skills as well as training in a variety of green technologies, including but not limited to energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and climate sciences. The Science Education Specialist supports the healthy development of American Indian youth and ensures the accomplishment of programmatic goals, objectives, and outcomes as required. The Science Education Specialists ensures youth are successful in setting career goals through education, training, mentoring, and coaching. This position reports directly to the Migizi Green Tech Institute Program Manager. Essential Duties and Responsibilitie s Mentor youth engaged in the Green Tech Institute at Migizi Implement and coordinate cohort activities daily Collaborate with program team on a weekly basis Communicate as required with families of youth served Network within institutions and systems to strengthen relationships and opportunities to promote partnerships and resource sharing Assist in the mentorship and training of Green Tech Institute Junior Staff Collaborate with other program staff to plan and implement activities and ensure the maximum benefits for youth Coordinate strategic training, summer internship and apprenticeship opportunities for Green Tech Institute youth Support and help develop an annual work plan based on the MIGIZI logic model and MIGIZI strategic plan to meet program goals. Ensure the program aligns with grant outcomes, objectives, and deliverables during the annual planning process. Monitor, track, and modify youth individualized learning plans. Identify and recruit STEM professionals to engage with Green Tech Institute interns. Tailor training to meet the developmental needs of participants. Assist in the selection and supervision of Green Tech Institute interns. Maintain timely and accurate program records in organizational databases (eg Salesforce). Assist in and contribute to the preparation of project/program reports, including data tracking and story gathering. Safely transport Green Tech interns in organization vehicles. Represent Migizi and The Green Tech Institute while engaged in community outreach, public facing events, or out of office trainings in a positive way. Embrace and center Indigenous ways of knowing and practices. Help to build and maintain a culturally safe space for Native American youth. Additional duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities A minimum of 4 years of experience in planning, coordination, and successful implementation of educational and internship support activities with youth.
Note:
An Associates degree may be substituted for 1 year of experience while a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience. Experience in, and knowledge of, Anishinaabe, Dakota, Lakota, or other American Indian & Indigenous cultural practices and teachings. Experience in, and knowledge of, STEM career pathways. Proficiency utilizing and navigating shared Google Workspace interfaces. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Contribute to a cooperative, collaborative, and flexible work team environment. A history of modeling positive behaviors to youth. Proven ability to actively engage youth and their families/guardians in the creation and pursuit of education and career goals. Knowledge of American Indian values and cultural practices. Knowledge of and familiarity with Minneapolis/St. Paul Indian communities. Work Environment This is an in-person position based in MIGIZI offices and community settings. The position may occasionally require travel to community locations to support and implement youth programming. A significant amount of time may be spent standing, walking, and actively engaging with youth. Additional Requirements Must pass a criminal background check. Must pass a driving records check and maintain an acceptable driving record. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Ability to stand and walk continuously. Ability to regularly lift 20 lbs and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. Pay & Benefits Starting pay is $22/hour. 32-40 hours per week. This role is non-exempt and eligible for overtime pay.
