Opportunity to directly support children, families, and community prevention efforts Position Summary Community Education and Outreach Specialist strengthens community awareness, education, and access to child safety resources throughout Franklin and Miami Counties. This position develops relationships with schools, community organizations, professionals, and other partners to provide child safety education, mandated reporter training, outreach, and community engagement. The Specialist will work closely with Sunflower House to learn and implement established educational programs and will help expand evidence-informed programming throughout the community. This position will also support volunteer engagement, community events, partnerships, and organizational outreach. Regular travel throughout Franklin and Miami Counties is required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Education & Training- Develop relationships with schools, educators, childcare providers, healthcare professionals, law enforcement, and community organizations.
- Coordinate and provide age-appropriate child safety and prevention education.
- Provide professional and community education on mandated reporting, child abuse recognition, trauma-informed practices, child advocacy services, and family resources.
- Work with Sunflower House to learn and implement established educational programs.
- Identify community education needs and opportunities for expanded programming. Community Outreach & Partnerships
- Represent Ad Astra Advocacy Center at community events, resource fairs, meetings, and outreach activities.
- Build and maintain strong community partnerships and referral relationships.
- Promote awareness of child advocacy services and available family resources.
- Assist with community awareness campaigns and special events. Volunteer Support
- Assist with volunteer recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, communication, and training.
- Coordinate volunteers for events, education programs, and outreach activities.
- Ensure volunteers have the information and resources needed to be successful. Program Administration & Grant Support
- Coordinate schedules for presentations, trainings, meetings, and events.
- Maintain educational materials, calendars, and program records.
- Track children and adults served, training provided, schools and organizations reached, volunteer involvement, and community outreach activities.
- Assist with grant reporting, program evaluation, and collection of participant feedback.
- Use program data and community feedback to improve and expand services.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow organizational policies and procedures.
Qualifications Required:
- Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with schools, community partners, volunteers, and staff.
- Commitment to child safety, family support, and community education.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in education, social work, child development, nonprofit management, communications, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Experience working with children, families, schools, or community organizations.
- Experience providing presentations, training, or community education.
- Experience coordinating volunteers or community programs.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and child protection systems.
