Job Description

Reports to: Director of Education | Full-Time, Nonexempt | San Francisco, CA / Hybrid Position Summary The Education Coordinator helps keep the Education Department's programs, communications, and events organized and running smoothly. Working within established systems, templates, and processes, the Coordinator manages day-to-day logistics, keeps information current, handles routine communications and updates, and helps identify practical ways to improve how the department works. Reporting to the Director of Education, the Coordinator supports trainings and events, outreach and community partnerships, program data, and family-facing communications and resources. With training and support, the Coordinator will also lead introductory trainings in English, including
IEP 101, IEP
Clinics, and SFCD agency overviews. This is a developmental role for someone who is reliable, organized, resourceful, and interested in building expertise in special education and disability services, with the potential to grow toward an Education & Youth Advocacy Specialist role. Key ResponsibilitiesProgram & Event Coordination
  • Coordinate Education Department trainings, workshops, clinics, conferences, and other events, including registration, scheduling, participant communications, materials, technology, and event-day logistics.
  • Support outreach to families and community partners and coordinate with presenters, exhibitors, vendors, and other partners.
  • Maintain department calendars, files, resources, and administrative systems and provide general project support to the Education Team.
  • Help ensure programs and events are welcoming, accessible, organized, and run smoothly. Training & Family Education
  • Build knowledge of special education, IEPs, transition, and disability services through training, supervision, and experience.
  • Once trained, lead introductory trainings in English, including
IEP 101, IEP
Clinics, SFCD agency overviews, Youth Self-Advocacy, and similar foundational topics.
  • Provide families and self-advocates with basic information and resources and connect them with additional SFCD services as appropriate. Communications & Resources
  • Produce and update family-facing communications, educational resources, presentations, and website content using established SFCD templates, systems, and brand guidelines.
  • Coordinate regular communications, including the monthly Info Digest and quarterly Newsletter.
  • Make routine website and resource updates and help ensure materials are current, clear, accessible, and family-friendly. Data & Program Support
  • Maintain accurate program, training, outreach, and attendance information in Salesforce and other established systems.
  • Run established reports and help track program goals, grant requirements, deadlines, and documentation.
  • Identify routine issues or opportunities to improve existing systems and processes and work with appropriate staff to address them.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development; maintain Education Department resources and supplies; and perform other related duties and special projects as assigned. Core Competencies

  • Comfortable learning new technology and using tools such as Microsoft Office, Salesforce, website platforms, virtual meeting tools, and AI-assisted tools.
  • Genuine interest in learning about special education, IEPs, disability services, and family support.
  • Flexible, collaborative, and committed to respectful work with diverse families and communities. Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and willing to learn new technology, systems, and workflows.
  • Experience with program coordination, events, administrative support, communications, or similar work preferred.
  • Prior Salesforce, website, design, AI-tool, special education, or disability-services experience is helpful but not required; training is provided.
  • Additional language skills relevant to the communities SFCD serves are valued but not required.
Professional Development & Growth This is a developmental role. The Coordinator will receive training and supervised experience in special education, IEPs, transition planning, disability services, and family support. As knowledge and skills grow, responsibilities may expand to include more advanced trainings and direct education and support for families and youth. A high-performing Coordinator may be well positioned to advance to an Education & Youth Advocacy Specialist role as organizational needs and opportunities allow. Compensation & Benefits
    Pay:
    $30.00-$32.50/hour ($62,400-$67,600 annually), depending on experience and qualifications.
    • Health coverage: 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee.

    401(k) available; SFCD makes a discretionary employer profit-sharing contribution in most years. Schedule & Work Environment
    • Approximately 25% of work occurs during evenings and weekends for trainings, IEP Clinics, conferences, outreach, and community events.
    • Expected to work in person at least three-fifths (3/5) of the time; additional in-person work may be required based on program needs.
    • Remote work is available when responsibilities allow but is not guaranteed on specific days or for a set number of days each week.
    • Local travel, primarily within San Francisco, is required. Physical and Functional RequirementsThis position requires the ability to:
    • Lift, carry, and move boxes, materials, and event supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
    • Move throughout the office and a variety of community and event settings, including parks and other indoor and outdoor locations.
    • Set up and assist with materials and supplies for trainings, conferences, and community events.
    • Maintain a high level of attention to detail while managing multiple tasks, deadlines, and information.
    • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with families, colleagues, community partners, and groups.
