Position Summary This study will provide curriculum evaluation data across three universities participating in curriculum redesign for pre-existing courses in biochemistry and biomedical science. Classroom environments at Carleton College, University of California San Diego, and University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill will target advanced undergraduate and first-year PhD students (>100 per year). The part-time temporary position is hosted by Pittman Teaching Lab (https://www.med.unc.edu/biochem/pittmanlab/). The hired Curriculum Evaluator will support conduct and management of research development activities, primarily focused on a mini-course examining the role of racial identity within biochemistry, biology, and biomedical science careers. We will compare students' understandings of the intersections among race, racism, and science before and after course participation. The project will involve qualitative data collection using surveys, interviews, and/or focus groups with the students, course developers, and/or course facilitators. The Curriculum Evaluator will be involved with finalizing the interview guide, conducting interviews and/or focus groups, developing and revising a codebook based on the Rightful Presence framework (Calabrese and Tan, 2019) analyzing data using qualitative software, and writing summary reports. As needed, assistant's primary task for any quantitative component would include creating new variables, labeling variables, and identifying missing values or mistakes. Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine's Working Forward initiative.
