About Light of Chance, Inc. Light of Chance, Inc. (www.lightofchance.org) is a dynamic nonprofit organization dedicated to serving youth and the community through innovative arts and wellness programs. Our programs include Breathe, an after-school arts program for grades 5-12. We aim to foster artistic expression, leadership, and social skills through dance, music, visual arts, and creative writing. Position Overview We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teaching Artist/Dance Instructor to join our community arts program. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning and leading engaging dance instruction while creating a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment for youth and adults with developmental disabilities. This role requires a commitment to mentorship, personal development, and community engagement. Primary Responsibilities Develop and implement engaging dance curriculum for diverse ability levels. Demonstrate dance techniques and methods to students. Observe and provide constructive feedback to enhance students' dance skills and confidence. Cultivate a safe and supportive learning environment—physically, emotionally, and psychologically. Encourage self-expression and creativity while building students' technical proficiency. Provide positive reinforcement, constructive criticism, and acknowledge achievements. Ensure all students, regardless of ability level, feel included and valued. Engage with underserved youth and adults with special needs populations. Act as a positive role model and mentor to program participants. Assist with special events and community outreach initiatives. Collaborate with the Executive Director and program staff to enhance program effectiveness. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Passion for dance and community engagement. Experience in dance instruction (hip-hop preferred). Ability to work with culturally diverse communities, including youth and individuals with developmental disabilities. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment. Flexibility, creativity, and a team-oriented mindset. Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries while providing supportive services. Must be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the U.S. Willingness to undergo a criminal history background check. Valid driver's license, satisfactory driving record, and reliable transportation. Preferred Qualifications Experience with special needs populations and adaptive dance instruction.
