Program Summary In our Adaptive Dance Program, Common Connections, students learn the foundations of dance, engage in the performing arts with their peers, and imagine their own unique ways of expression in an open and inclusive environment. Designed for youth to young adult. Curriculum aligned with BPS, DESE, & Common Core Standards. Position Summary The Lead Dance Teacher plays a central role in Boston Arts Club's Common Connections program, bringing inclusive, movement-based arts education to students on the autism spectrum. Working in collaboration with school Teachers and Paraprofessionals, the teacher leads weekly sessions focused on creative expression, body awareness, and peer engagement. Responsibilities include designing adaptive lesson plans, creating a safe and welcoming classroom environment, and helping students build confidence through movement. This role is ideal for a compassionate teaching artist with experience in special education, dance, and creating effective lesson plans. Key Responsibilities Lead weekly, one-hour adaptive dance classes for students on the autism spectrum Create inclusive and accessible lesson plans that align with Common Connections class and program structure as outlined in the CC Program Manual Ability to adapt instruction to meet a wide range of physical, cognitive, and sensory needs Foster a positive, supportive classroom environment that encourages participation and social connection Collaborate with school faculty, paraprofessionals, and other staff to best support student learning, as needed Manage classroom logistics, including pre/post-setup and learning transitions, with a focus on structure and ease Communicate regularly with the Boston Arts Club team about successes, challenges, and needs Participate in an annual orientation and occasional check-ins throughout the year

Qualifications Required:

Experience teaching dance, movement, or creative arts to youth Demonstrated ability to support neurodiverse learners, including students on the autism spectrum Familiarity with inclusive and adaptive teaching practices Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills Ability to collaborate effectively with school faculty and staff Commitment to creating a safe, respectful, and encouraging learning environment Punctuality, professionalism, and reliability in a school-based setting

Preferred:

Background in special education, dance therapy, or trauma-informed teaching Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in dance, education, or a related field Understanding of IEPs and differentiated instruction Experience working in Boston Public Schools or similar education environments Schedule & Location Thursdays, 2p-3p Potential to teach at additional locations, as available
