ABOUT THE ROLE GINYC

is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Dance Specialist to support our middle and high school programming at our West Harlem site. The ideal candidate is a skilled educator with a strong dance background who can lead engaging, small-group instruction. While Dance is the primary specialty, the Specialist is a key member of the program team responsible for facilitating core Girls Inc. curricula, providing daily homework help, and supporting the overall success of the after-school environment. The Dance Specialist is responsible for delivering programming five days per week in a

GINYC DYCD OST

(Out of School Time) program. The GINYC after-school program fosters and develops girls' overall wellness. Girls take advantage of opportunities to grow, define personal goals, and embark on their own journeys. Through unique and intentional programs, girls have opportunities to explore and advance in all areas of their lives.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as a well-rounded facilitator for the after-school program, seamlessly transitioning between specialized dance instruction, core Girls Inc. programming, and daily homework assistance.
• Create age-appropriate choreography and lesson plans that focus on skill-building, creative expression, and body positivity.
• Facilitate Girls Inc. direct service programs with groups of 15-20 girls in grades 6 through 12.
• Position requires flexibility, creativity, organization, energy, and passion for inspiring girls to be strong, smart and bold.
• Create an inclusive space that challenges gender stereotypes.
• Build strong relationships with youth, parents, community leaders, and school staff.
• Complete administrative duties such as daily attendance, reporting, and homework logs.
• Follow through on directives given by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 2 years' experience facilitating for high school and/or middle school youth.
• Proficiency in one or more dance styles (e.g. hip hop, contemporary, jazz, cultural) and ability to teach fundamentals to beginners.
• Background in partnering with schools, experiential learning and group facilitation with youth is a must.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills that follow positive youth development principles.
• Experience working in single-sex, gender equity programs is preferred.
• High School Diploma required.

Associates Degree or some college degree preferred in Dance, Dance Education, Performing Arts, or a related field.
