POSITION SUMMARY

The Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction (Secondary) is responsible for leading, supporting, and supervising curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning in the core academic subjects (Math, ELA, Social Studies, and Science) across grades 6-12. This role ensures high-quality instructional delivery and teacher development in the district's middle and high schools, aligns instruction with Pennsylvania state standards, supervises secondary department chairs, coordinators, and content specialists, and uses student data to improve teaching and learning outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree required Valid Pennsylvania administrative certification (Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction or Principal) required Minimum five (5) years of successful teaching and leadership experience in a secondary education setting preferred Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum design, assessment literacy, and instructional coaching Experience working with secondary-level educators, departments, and administrators Effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills Proficiency in instructional technology and student information systems Must meet all state and federal background clearance requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Curriculum & Instructional Leadership Manage the curriculum cycle and the implementation of high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) for 6-12 content areas Conduct curriculum materials review and purchasing in alignment with the curriculum cycle, while maintaining instructional best practices Evaluate the effectiveness of curriculum and instructional programs, recommend improvements, and monitor implementation to ensure fidelity Guide the implementation of state standards and lead professional learning around new standards as they are adopted Oversee course catalog development, curriculum mapping, and instructional planning across the middle and high schools Manage middle school math placement in collaboration with middle school principals Collaborate with school and district leaders to support Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), credit recovery, and academic interventions Provide guidance and support to teachers in implementing effective instructional strategies, using technology, and differentiating instruction Supervision & Evaluation Supervise department chairs, coordinators, curriculum leaders, and specialists in secondary content areas Conduct walkthroughs and formal observations with principals and assistant principals; conduct observations and coaching of teachers at the request of principals Coach and support secondary teachers and department chairs in instructional effectiveness Participate in educator effectiveness evaluations and reporting (e.g., Act 13, PVAAS) Work collaboratively with principals, teachers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and consistency in curriculum and instruction across the middle and high schools Collect data, run processes, and prepare and facilitate relevant meetings in conjunction with Human Resources and the principal for staff discipline matters Assessment, Data & Accountability Manage and analyze student achievement data to identify areas of strength and areas needing improvement, and use that data to inform curriculum and instructional decisions Facilitate professional learning on data analysis and the resulting shifts in instructional practice Communicate assessment calendars and coordinate accountability and fidelity checks Coordinate accountability efforts and state-mandated assessments for the middle and high schools Professional Learning & Development Design and facilitate professional learning for secondary staff, including department chairs and coordinators, and district-wide as required Coordinate and support department and district-wide Act 48 professional development Support the professional learning plan for secondary teachers and counselors Advise on and support teacher requests for conference attendance Support and collaborate in district professional education committee Technology Integration Collaborate with IT and instructional staff to implement and support digital tools and resources Lead training and integration of educational technology platforms in secondary classrooms Strategic & Programmatic Responsibilities Support Strategic Plan pillars, as assigned by the Superintendent Assist in the development of the strategic plan and related district initiatives Coordinate the integration of Portrait of a Graduate competencies into curriculum, instruction, and PBIS programming Lead department and building-level meetings to foster collaboration and continuous improvement Operational Responsibilities Monitor curriculum and professional learning budgets Manage instructional materials inventories and consolidation for budgeting; coordinate textbook and resource ordering Represent the district at local, regional, and state-level curriculum and instruction events Working Conditions Regular travel between district schools required Occasional evening meetings and professional events expected Ability to lift up to 20 pounds Must maintain confidentiality and work under deadlines and stressful conditions as needed ADA Requirements The individual, while performing in this position, will be required to: Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, and to talk, hear, taste, and smell. Sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms; and occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, and crouch. Have specific vision abilities, including close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Have the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Work in a moderate noise level environment. Function at a high level and exercise the judgment and maturity required for making decisions that affect large numbers of staff and students. The nature of the position requires handling sensitive information, and strict standards of confidentiality must be maintained at all times. Work under stressful conditions when addressing difficult issues, participating in staffing matters, and engaging in budget proceedings.
