Job Description

The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth has exciting summer employment opportunities for enthusiastic and knowledgeable Architecture instructors in our summer programs for academically advanced students. This exciting interdisciplinary course introduces advanced 3rd-4th grade students to the world of architecture through hands-on design challenges that combine geometry, engineering, humanities, culture, sustainability, and creative problem-solving. Students will explore how architecture shapes the way people live, work, and interact with the world while learning about influential architects, structural design, measurement, scale, proportion, and sustainability. The instructor will guide students through collaborative projects, discussions, architectural drawing activities, and scale-model building exercises designed to encourage higher-order thinking and creativity. Responsibilities Supervise and engage children in various camp activities, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment. Implement lesson plans that incorporate educational elements, including math concepts, while promoting teamwork and creativity. Manage classroom behavior and provide support to children with special needs. Administer first aid when necessary and maintain a safe environment. Foster positive relationships with campers and their families through effective communication and support. Desired Qualifications Have at least 2 years of independent teaching experience Have a background or demonstrated interest in architecture, design, geometry, engineering, humanities, or related interdisciplinary subjects Enjoy working with advanced middle and high school learners Thrive in hands-on, project-based classroom environments Can independently lead classroom instruction and facilitate collaborative learning experiences Terms of Employment Starting salary for each three-session ranges from $4,000 to $5,000 stipend depending upon years of experience and education.
