Driver Trainer - North Oakland Transportation Authority (NOTA)
Location:
Oxford, MI Employment Type:
Full-Time, 40 hours/week (variable daily hours)
Schedule:
Shifts may vary based on operational needs. Occasional evenings, weekends, or on-call hours may be required for training events or emergencies. As a Driver Trainer , you'll play a key role in developing the next generation of drivers, ensuring they meet safety standards, follow operational procedures, and deliver excellent service to our riders. This position combines hands-on coaching, mentorship, and administrative responsibilities , giving you the chance to make a tangible impact on driver performance and safety culture. Key Responsibilities Mentorship and Support Guide and support new drivers as they learn their roles Answer questions and provide practical guidance on safe driving, operational procedures, and company policies Foster a positive learning environment that encourages professional growth Training Assistance Support the Driver Development Manager in delivering training programs Assist with classroom sessions and training paperwork Learn and train others in topics including defensive driving, safety procedures, securement methods, and customer service On-the-Road Coaching Ride along with drivers to evaluate performance and provide real-time feedback Identify at-risk behaviors and coach drivers to improve safety and performance Conduct practical assessments and written performance evaluations Recommend and implement corrective actions when needed Performance Monitoring and Administration Track driver progress, noting strengths and areas for development Maintain accurate records of training sessions, assessments, and evaluations Support the Driver Development Manager with administrative tasks such as scanning, data entry, and record keeping Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (associate's degree or higher preferred) Valid chauffeur's license required, but may be obtained after hire Minimum 2 years of professional driving experience with a clean driving record Prior coaching, training, or instructional experience is desirable Skilled in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and training tools/technology Able to pass background check and FTA drug test Why Join NOTA Make a real difference in driver development and community safety Supportive, collaborative, and team-focused workplace Opportunity to mentor and shape the next generation of drivers Competitive pay and full-time benefits Join the NOTA team and be part of Transportation That Cares.
