Job Description

OBI INSTRUCTOR

•Part-time as needed basis

Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center

Job Objective

Travel to school district locations to conduct school bus driver training programs. Coordinate with district administration and transportation supervisors to develop training schedules. Prepare prospective bus drivers for pre-trip inspections and road tests in compliance with Ohio Department of Education requirements.

Note:

Ohio Bus Instructor (OBI) certification is required. Candidates who do not currently hold the certification must be eligible and willing to obtain it within three months following employment.

Minimum Qualifications

Meet all school bus driver personnel qualifications per Ohio Administrative Code 3301-83-06 and 3301-83-10

Hold valid state pre-service school bus driver training program certificate

Meet vehicle insurance policy requirements

Effective presentation and adult training skills

Clear understanding and commitment to defensive driving practices

Available for non-traditional schedule and irregular hours

Clean criminal background record suitable for public school employment

Pass pre-employment and ongoing random drug/alcohol testing

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Essential Functions

Conduct Compliant Training Programs:

Deliver bus driver training that meets Ohio Department of Education & Workforce standards, including vehicle operations, defensive driving techniques, and disability assistance procedures

Maintain Training Standards:

Monitor state requirements, prepare instructional materials, and ensure program effectiveness

Professional Documentation:

Maintain accurate training records, submit required paperwork timely, and report incidents as required

Continuous Professional Development:

Stay current with transportation laws, safety procedures, and equipment technology

Collaborative Communication:

Work effectively with district administrators, transportation supervisors, and trainees

Reports to: Director of Technology & Operations
