Hope Academy High School is a Christian workforce development school dedicated to preparing students for success in life, college, and career. Our educational model combines standards-based academic instruction with hands-on workforce development. Students engage in core academic coursework while developing practical career skills, leadership, character, and workplace readiness. As a startup school, we are building a culture grounded in excellence, innovation, faith, accountability, and purpose. We are seeking an educator excited to help shape a new generation of learners while contributing to our school's continued development and growth. Position Overview. Hope Academy seeks an experienced, passionate, student-centered Founding School Principal and Multi-Subject Teacher to lead and provide direct instruction within our growing private Christian workforce development high school. This is a combined school leadership and teaching position. The individual will deliver instruction across multiple high school subjects while coordinating the academic program, student support systems, school culture, daily schedule, graduation pathways, and workforce development activities. This position does not include formally supervising or evaluating other teachers. The individual will work collaboratively with the Founder and CEO, organizational staff, mentors, volunteers, families, and community partners. Primary Responsibilities Multi-Subject Teaching and Instruction Provide direct instruction across assigned subjects, including core academics, career readiness, leadership, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and workforce development. Develop standards-aligned lesson plans, projects, assessments, student workbooks, and instructional resources. Use engaging and differentiated methods to support students with varied learning levels and needs. Maintain a structured classroom and provide intervention, tutoring, make-up work, enrichment, and individualized support. Curriculum and Academic Program Development Develop curriculum maps, pacing guides, course sequences, and assessments aligned with applicable Alabama standards and graduation requirements. Monitor grades, attendance, behavior, assessment results, course completion, credits, and progress toward graduation. Use student performance data to adjust instruction and create academic improvement plans for students needing additional support. Maintain individualized graduation pathways, transcripts, academic files, student portfolios, report cards, and progress reports. School Leadership and Daily Operations Coordinate the daily schedule, instructional blocks, transitions, student activities, meals, field experiences, and dismissal procedures. Translate Hope Academy's mission into practical academic systems, student expectations, routines, and accountability measures. Communicate student progress, academic needs, operational concerns, and recommended solutions to the Founder and CEO. Participate in planning related to enrollment, facilities, partnerships, school growth, accreditation readiness, and program development. School Culture and Christian Formation Build a positive school culture grounded in Christian principles, academic excellence, meaningful relationships, accountability, and hope. Integrate Christian values throughout instruction and lead or coordinate worship, devotion, prayer, and faith-centered learning experiences. Establish clear and consistent expectations for behavior, attendance, academic effort, participation, and personal responsibility. Use restorative and developmentally appropriate responses to conflict while promoting character, service, teamwork, leadership, and spiritual growth. Workforce Development and Project-Based Learning Integrate workforce development, career exploration, entrepreneurship, customer service, financial literacy, leadership, and employability skills throughout instruction. Develop real-world projects and coordinate career exposure, workplace visits, guest speakers, internships, job-shadowing, dual enrollment, and credentialing opportunities. Help students develop professional portfolios, presentations, workplace communication skills, and post-graduation plans. Teach professional expectations, including attendance, punctuality, teamwork, accountability, communication, problem-solving, and workplace conduct. Student, Family and Community Engagement Communicate regularly with families regarding student achievement, attendance, behavior, assignments, interventions, and graduation progress. Prepare family newsletters, academic updates, progress reports, report cards, and other school communications. Partner with parents and guardians to address barriers affecting student achievement and school participation. Assist with student enrollment, recruitment, orientation, retention, and re-enrollment. Help new students and families understand Hope Academy's mission, academic program, Christian expectations, workforce model, and school routines. Build relationships with employers, colleges, training providers, churches, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and community leaders. Identify partnerships and resources that expand academic, career, cultural, and leadership opportunities for students. Coordinate guest speakers, volunteers, mentors, and community-based learning experiences. Help prepare student presentations, school materials, program summaries, and other information for community partners and funders. Records, Safety, and Compliance Maintain accurate attendance, grades, assessments, course records, transcripts, student files, graduation documentation, and family communication records. Document interventions, conferences, behavior concerns, and support plans while protecting confidential information. Follow applicable private-school requirements, organizational policies, health and safety expectations, and mandated reporting responsibilities. Support emergency procedures, incident documentation, student supervision, and continuous school-improvement efforts. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in education, educational leadership, administration, or a related field. Previous experience as a principal, assistant principal, or instructional coach. Experience working with high school students and supervising educators. Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and classroom management. Demonstrated ability to improve student achievement and support teacher development. Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work successfully with students from diverse backgrounds, including students who may have experienced academic, behavioral, or personal challenges. Ability to lead with compassion while maintaining structure, consistency, and accountability. Must support the Christian mission and values of Hope Academy and That's My Child. Must successfully complete all required background checks. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in educational leadership, administration, curriculum and instruction, or a related field. Current or previous school leadership certification. Experience working in a high school setting. Experience implementing intervention plans, project-based learning, career readiness, and workforce development programs. Experience helping build or expand a new school or academic program. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate would be a retired high school leader, such as a former principal or assistant principal, or a strong instructional coach who believes every student can succeed when given structure, support, opportunity, and hope. This individual must be willing to work hands-on, build relationships with students and families, support teachers, solve problems, and help Hope Academy grow into a model school for education and workforce development.
