The Desk Assistant (DA) works scheduled desk hours previously negotiated with the Desk Manager for Housing and Residential Communities. Provides customer service to residents, guests, parents, faculty, staff, and UA community members. Checks supplies in and out. Answers phones. Additional duties as assigned by supervising personnel.Required Minimum Qualifications:
Current full-time University of Alabama undergraduate student for Fall 2026. Ability to work overnight and weekend hours throughout the semester.Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:
Must be able to attend all departmental and area training sessions and workshops. Dress appropriately for the position at all times. Arrive on time for all desk shifts. Refrain from engaging in and propagating gossip regarding any information received as a function of their desk position. Be attentive to your desk duties at all times, refraining from sleeping while at work, leaving the desk unattended, or engaging in continuous conversation with friends or on cell phones. Serve as a role model to residents. Adhere and enforce all HRC policies and UA Student Code of Conduct.Skills and Knowledge:
Positive and excellent customer service skills.Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to work overnight and weekend hours throughout the semester. Ability to work during break periods; i.e. any state sponsored holidays, or special campus closings, etc. Ability to work during special campus events, catastrophic weather, etc.Enrollment Requirements:
Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment. groundInvestigation Statement:
