Position Summary A High School Student Instructional Assistant supports Storm Lake Community School District by assisting teachers and staff in creating a safe, welcoming, and student-centered learning environment. This position provides high school students with the opportunity to gain experience working with children and supporting learning while developing responsibility, communication, and leadership skills. Assignment Options Instructional Assistant positions may be available in: Preschool Early Elementary (K–1) Elementary (2–5) Middle School (6–8) High School (9–12) Assignments are determined based on district needs, student needs, and the student employee's interests, skills, and availability. Essential Responsibilities Student Support & Learning Assist students with classroom activities and learning tasks as directed by the teacher or staff member Work with individual students or small groups under the supervision of school staff Encourage students to participate in learning and classroom activities Support students with routines, transitions, and daily activities Relationships & Culture Build positive and respectful relationships with students Help create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment Model positive behavior, responsibility, and respectful communication Encourage and support students as they learn and grow Classroom & Supervision Assist teachers and staff with classroom activities, materials, and organization Supervise or support students during activities and transitions as directed by school staff Help with classroom organization, preparation, and cleanup Follow school procedures and the directions of teachers and staff Professional Expectations Maintain student confidentiality and follow FERPA guidelines Demonstrate reliability, responsibility, and a willingness to learn Communicate respectfully and professionally with students and staff Be flexible and willing to support different tasks and student needs Serve as a positive role model for younger students Support the district's commitment to a student-centered environment Qualifications Must be a currently enrolled high school student Must be able to follow directions and work effectively with students and staff Demonstrates responsibility, dependability, and a willingness to learn Experience working with children is preferred but not required
