OVERVIEW

The assistant principal is responsible for assisting in the leadership that will ensure an appropriate and quality education for all students in the school to which he/she is assigned. Carries out adopted policies of the Mercer County Board of Education and directives of the Superintendent of Schools. Assists as an evaluator to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the school program and school staff. Assists in developing effective staffing procedures. Assist in providing for an ongoing review and evaluation of the schools curriculum and programs. Assists in involving staff in aligning the Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

RESPONSIBILITIES
OVERVIEW:

The assistant principal is responsible for assisting in the leadership that will insure an appropriate and quality education for all students in the school to which he/she is assigned. Carries out adopted policies of the Mercer County Board of Education and directives of the Superintendent of Schools. Assists as an evaluator to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the school program and school staff. Assists in developing effective staffing procedures. Assist in providing for an ongoing review and evaluation of the schools curriculum and programs. Assists in involving staff in aligning the Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists the chief administrator.

Participates in, assists in supervising and coordinating the planning, development, and operation of the total school program. Provides general and specific supervision over the total school program and over school assigned personnel. Delegates responsibility for various school functions but is responsible to the principal, Superintendent, and Board of Education for the results that are produced.

Formulates and enforces rules of discipline. Involves students, staff, and community in the formulation and review of such rules and regulations.

Assists in promoting, supervising extra-curricular programs within the school. Attends meetings and conferences as required by the state, suggested by the Board of Education, or directed by the principal and by the Superintendent.

Keeps abreast of the current educational practices, techniques, and procedures.

Studies curriculum requirements and changes and insured compliance with Kentucky Common Core.

Assists in developing and monitoring the school's improvement plan. Involves staff in monitoring NCLB or ESSA goals and initiatives.

Involves staff in aligning the Kentucky Core Content or KAS.

Allocate appropriate time for the evaluation and improvement of the school certified staff. Attends on a regular basis board meetings of the Mercer County Board of Education.

Attends staff meetings and serves on committees to promote the total program of the Mercer County Schools.

Devotes sufficient time and energy to carry out all duties, both assigned and implied as the assistant principal.

Provides information and assists support personnel in the performance of their duties.

Provides advice, suggestions, and assistance to school personnel to help them in the performance of their duties and to promote and maintain morale.

Assists in providing for and maintaining an efficient and safe system for loading and unloading students from the buses.

Provides for regular inspection of buildings and grounds pertaining to cleanliness and healthful conditions.

Provides a system for the notification of parents concerning student discipline, health, or academic issues.

Performs such other duties as may be directed by the principal, Superintendent, or Board of Education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Three years experience as a successful teacher.
  • Certification for principal.
  • Master's Degree and Rank II
