Reports to: Principal
Athletic Director will supervise coaches and athletic participants for Tantasqua Junior and Senior High Schools.
Job Goal:
To provide each high school and junior high school students with an opportunity to participate in interscholastic sports that enhances their physical, emotional, and social skills and well-being.
Essential Functions:
- Organizes and administers the overall program for Grades 7-12 of interscholastic sports.
- Provides leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff members.
- Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic programs.
- Sets a vision for the athletic department that coincides with district goals and mission.
- Develops leadership opportunities for student-athletes.
- Develops and maintains an Athletic Handbook.
- Communicates regularly with student athletes, faculty members, parents, and the community.
- Works with Tantasqua Booster Club and attends their monthly meetings.
- Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events.
- Hires officials, team physicians, and police officers as required, and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games and practices.
- Arranges transportation for athletic contest participants.
- Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities, intramurals, and extracurricular activities.
- Implements any physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport or activity, and verifies each student's eligibility in accordance with any MIAA and/or School Committee policies, regulations, or procedures.
- Prepares and administers the athletic budget and submits to the High School Principal and the Superintendent of Schools.
- Requisitions, in cooperation with appropriate staff members, supplies, uniforms, and equipment for athletic programs.
- Supervises the cleaning, storage, and care of all athletic equipment and supplies.
- Supervises all ticket sales and fundraising events connected with athletic events and assumes responsibility for proper handling and accounting of monies involved.
- Assists the Facilities Manager in the management, supervision and maintenance planning of fields and athletic facilities.
- Provides an opportunity for the physical examination of all athletes prior to the beginning of each sports season.
- Keeps records of the results of all junior high school and high school athletic contests, and maintains a record file of all award winners, stating the date and type of award, including athletic scholarships.
- Evaluates annually, in cooperation with the building principal(s), all interscholastic sports and makes recommendations for future improvements.
- Evaluates, in cooperation with the building principal(s), the performance of all coaches at the conclusion of each season or activity.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the High School Principal or his/her designee.
- Sits on the Athletic Hall of Fame board and works with the committee to schedule the induction ceremonies.
Job Requirements - Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred
- MA DESE School Certification preferred (Teaching or Administration)
- Strong communication, organization and leadership skills
- Approved CORI and Fingerprinting results
Salary Range:
$65,000.00 - $75,000.00
