Job Description
The Special Education Services Director directs and administers the Special Education Services Program for preschool children with disabilities and their families according to each child's Individual Education Plan.
Duties include:
Provides leadership, direction, and oversight to the overall day-to-day operations of the Special Services Program. Develops and implements program and classroom procedures according to Regulations of the Commissioner. Provides staff training and development, coaching, and mentoring. Meets with staff to keep them informed about program activities, concerns, and achievements. Supervises Special Education Services Teachers, Teaching Assistants, 1:1 Aides, and clinical staff and provides training about disabilities and inclusive programming. Integrates special education children with Head Start children in an inclusive classroom setting. Meets regularly with staff to review IEP's and program needs. Assures that objectives and recordkeeping of all Special Education Services areas are met. Conducts ongoing evaluation and analysis of the Special Education Services program to ensure quality, fiscal, accountability, cost and program effectiveness. Ensure that daily operations and overall program management is in compliance with NYS Department of Education regulations relating to students with disabilities. Works to develop and advocate for new services to meet the needs of children with disabilities and their families. Serves as a resource for community members in areas of educating children with disabilities, providing resources for families and early intervention. Communicates regularly with the county Health Department to assess community needs. Works with Transportation Professionals as needed to ensure safe transportation of children. Serves as Special Education Services liaison to state offices, local government officials about program services, arranging for parent involvement, and broadening support for the program. Partners with Executive Director and Senior Management Team in identifying and sharing program areas in need of improvement, brainstorming solutions, and celebrating successes. Works closely with classroom Special Education Services Teachers and related services providers to ensure organization and effective programming. Supervises Special Education Services Staff, Coordinator of Special Education Services, Coordinator of Clinical Services and Social Worker. Develops and manages fiscal budgets and inventory for the Special Education Services Program with the Executive Director and Fiscal Officer. Assists parents in learning to be advocates for their children and supports them through the diagnostic/referral process. Organizes training activities to meet the diverse needs of parents of children with special needs. Attends relevant training sessions and shares information. Attending regular Senior Staff, Strategic Planning, and Affirmative Action meetings. Identifies areas for future development and implements a plan to achieve the desired results. Develops programming to respond to preschool special education needs in other counties. Takes an active role in the annual strategic planning process and compiling information for the final document.Job Type:
