Exempt Qualifications:

Valid and appropriate Principal's certificate/license from the State of Ohio. Master's degree from accredited college or university. Knowledge of Ohio proficiency outcomes and state models of curriculum. Demonstrates a sincere desire to aid all students, staff and the community. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Skilled in curriculum, teacher evaluation, and community relations. Alternative to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate.

General Description:

The Administrative Substitute provides temporary leadership and management in the absence of a building or district administrator. This position ensures the continuity of daily operations, instructional leadership, staff supervision, and student safety consistent with the policies, procedures, and mission of Springfield Local Schools.

Essential Functions:

Assume the duties of a building principal, assistant principal, or other designated administrator during periods of temporary absence. Supervise daily operations, including but not limited to discipline, instructional programs, student activities, and staff. Works cooperatively with the teaching staff for the best interests of the students. Conducts administrative and staff meetings if needed. Promotes and maintains good public relations with the community. Maintain a safe, orderly, and positive school climate in accordance with district policies. Communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and community members. Manages the school plant and supervises the non-instructional personnel in cooperation with the Superintendent and Supervisor of Maintenance and Supervisor of Food Service/Custodians. Assumes responsibility in all areas where a court case may arise, e.g., in cases of truancy, serious disciplinary cases involving the police, suspension, expulsion and similar problems. Collaborate with district leadership to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens as responsible, intelligent human beings. Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values. Remains free of any alcohol or non prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district. Integrates technology into classroom instruction. Maintains privileged information as appropriate.

Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue. Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions. Occasional interaction among unruly children.
