The role manages an assigned caseload and offers individualized academic planning (including major-specific course selection) to promote timely progression and graduation. Advisors guide students through academic requirements, institutional policies, and campus resources, connecting them with support, including faculty mentors, tutors, and success programs. Manage a caseload of approximately 250-280 undergraduate students, providing timely, accurate, developmentally appropriate advising throughout the academic year. Develop, maintain, and regularly update individualized academic plans aligned with students' academic and career goals. Support registration, course selection, and degree planning; help students understand major/minor requirements, academic standing, university policies, and graduation pathways. Monitor academic progress and provide timely interventions, consistent communication, and detailed recordkeeping using Navigate or other designated case management systems. Guide students through academic policies and related processes (e.g., overrides, petitions, appeals, probation/suspension, academic forgiveness, GPA improvement strategies, late withdrawals). Refer students to appropriate campus partners (e.g., Financial Aid, Records, Career Services, Veterans Affairs, Athletics, and others) based on need. Participate in and present at New Student Orientation, academic fairs, and group advising sessions, including occasional evening/weekend events. Collaborate with academic departments and campus leadership (including pathways such as the UTC Advisors Council) to identify and communicate emerging student issues and barriers to success. Support special student populations as needed, including students in joint undergraduate/master's programs, in coordination with graduate school faculty and staff. Perform departmental duties as assigned (including recruitment and other duties as assigned). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of and ability to learn various software programs; proficiency with computers. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively with students and faculty from different cultural backgrounds and experience levels. Organizational and prioritization skills, including the ability to manage multiple requests efficiently and in a timely manner. Ability to understand and comply with federal and university guidelines. Attention to detail. Application reviews will begin May 4, 2026 after posting and continue until the position is filled. Required:
Bachelor's degree. Experience in a secondary or higher education setting working with students' academic needs or experiences (may include advising services, coordinating student services, or an equivalent of education/training/experience).
Preferred:
Work background in a higher education setting, providing advising services or coordinating support services.
