Job Description

At Elsa's Blessings Day School, we believe every child deserves a nurturing, joyful, and engaging early learning experience. We are seeking a dependable, organized, hands-on Assistant Director / Operations & Classroom Support Lead who will partner closely with the Director to support the daily operation of the school. This is a dual-role position that combines administrative leadership with hands-on classroom and operational support. The ideal candidate understands that early childhood leadership does not always happen from behind a desk. Depending on the needs of the school, this individual may assist with administrative responsibilities, provide classroom coverage, support teachers, help maintain required ratios, assist with food-service operations, and complete light housekeeping and organizational tasks. We are looking for someone who is flexible, proactive, team-oriented, and willing to step in wherever needed to help the school operate safely, smoothly, and efficiently. Administrative & Record-Keeping Responsibilities Work closely with the Director to support daily school operations and administrative needs. Maintain accurate student and staff records, including enrollment, attendance, health information, and required documentation. Assist with tuition management, account balances, credits, payment records, and family account information. Follow up with families regarding outstanding balances or payment concerns as directed. Assist with enrollment, registration, and other administrative paperwork. Support licensing compliance and preparation for inspections, audits, VQB5, accreditation initiatives, and other regulatory requirements. Maintain confidentiality of student, family, staff, and financial information. Assist with school emails, announcements, family communications, and special administrative projects. Provide leadership and administrative coverage in the Director's absence as assigned. Classroom & Staff Support Work collaboratively with teachers to promote a positive, professional, and supportive work environment. Assist teachers with classroom needs and provide hands-on support when staffing needs arise. Provide classroom coverage during staff absences, breaks, vacations, or other situations when additional support is needed to maintain required ratios. Serve as a floater or classroom support person when necessary. Assist with daily classroom staffing and teacher scheduling. Support the Director with recruiting, onboarding, mentoring, and training staff. Conduct informal classroom check-ins and assist with observations, coaching, and teacher feedback. Assist with lesson-plan review and implementation of developmentally appropriate practices. Help coordinate professional development, staff meetings, and team-building activities. Family & School Communication Serve as a point of contact for routine family questions and concerns. Support teachers in maintaining positive and consistent communication with families. Assist the Director with parent meetings when appropriate. Help facilitate family events, school programs, and school-wide communications. Daily Operations & Light Housekeeping Because this is a hands-on operational leadership role, the Assistant Director / Operations & Classroom Support Lead will also assist with daily tasks necessary to keep the school functioning smoothly, including: Assist with receiving, preparing, organizing, and distributing daily lunches. Prepare and distribute classroom snack bags. Wash and organize dishes and help maintain kitchen and food-preparation areas. Assist with laundry, including classroom towels, bibs, sheets, and other school linens. Prepare bleach/sanitizing solutions and classroom cleaning supplies as required. Collect and properly dispose of trash throughout the school as needed. Restock classroom, kitchen, bathroom, and administrative supplies. Receive deliveries and organize incoming supplies. Help ensure classrooms and common areas are prepared for daily operations. Identify facility concerns and communicate maintenance or repair needs to the Director. Assist with minor day-to-day facility needs when appropriate. Assist with setup and breakdown for school events and special programs. Safety & Compliance Help ensure classrooms remain within required staff-to-child ratios. Support adherence to school policies, classroom schedules, safety procedures, and licensing requirements. Assist with emergency preparedness activities, including fire and lockdown drills. Communicate safety or facility concerns promptly to the Director. Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and well-functioning school environment. Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of experience in an early childhood education or childcare setting. Prior leadership, supervisory, or administrative experience strongly preferred. Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, or a related field preferred; equivalent qualifying experience or certification may be considered. Comfortable using childcare-management software and Microsoft/Google Workspace. Ability to lead staff while also working collaboratively as part of a team. Willingness and ability to move between administrative responsibilities, classroom support, and operational tasks throughout the workday. Must be comfortable providing direct care and supervision to children when classroom coverage is needed. Ability to multitask and adjust priorities in a fast-paced early childhood environment. Dependable, flexible, professional, and able to take initiative.
