The Addison Northwest School District (ANWSD) serves students from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 and is centered around the small city of Vergennes and its surrounding rural communities of Addison, Ferrisburgh, Panton, and Waltham in northern Addison County, Vermont. The area is known for its strong sense of community, historic character, agricultural landscape, and access to the natural beauty of Lake Champlain and the surrounding countryside.

Conveniently located between Burlington and Middlebury, the ANWSD community offers the benefits of small-town living while remaining connected to larger communities, cultural opportunities, and regional services. Families and community members are deeply invested in their schools, and the district reflects the collaborative, caring, and community-minded spirit that makes this region of Vermont a special place to live, work, and learn.

The Qualifications:
  • The Board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. It is looking for a candidate with the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. Specifically, the Board seeks a Superintendent who will:
  • Demonstrate strong leadership focused on student success, use data and collaboration to strengthen teaching and learning, address disparities in student achievement, uphold academic standards, and ensure all students have the opportunity to become critical thinkers and productive citizens.
  • Strongly support, model, and hold others accountable to the district's vision where everyone is treated with kindness, dignity, and respect - and where bias, racism, and discrimination are unacceptable and promptly addressed.

Establish an effective relationship with the Board, communicating in a timely fashion to keep board members informed. Collaborate with the administrators, teachers, and staff to translate district priorities into clear goals and actions designed to promote equity and benefit students, while also providing appropriate resources and support.

Create strong and productive working partnerships with district personnel, employee unions, and community members through open communication, active listening, respect, collaboration, and effective problem-solving, while establishing a visible presence in the district and community.

Rely on data-based evidence and diverse perspectives to make thoughtful decisions focused on what will best serve students, anticipate unintended consequences, and adjust course when circumstances or results warrant.
