ACCOUNTABILITY
The Elementary School Teacher is under the administrative direction of the Schools Administrator (Principal) and accountable to the Schools Board.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The teacher's chief activity is that of instructing students in the school curriculum according to the philosophy and objectives of the school.
EXPECTATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Curriculum Administration Articulate the objectives of this Lutheran school. Implement policies adopted by the congregation and Schools Board. Formulate instructional objectives and develop suitable methods for achieving them. Prepare written lesson plans. Use effective tools and procedures to evaluate pupil achievement. Create learning experiences which are appropriate to the student's learning style and level of understanding. Evidence a love for teaching children. Instruct students about Christian ethics and citizenship. Student Advocacy Communicate effectively with students, commending and reinforcing preferred conduct and achievement. Develop a personal knowledge of each student; counsel and assist students individually as necessary. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior using Christian methods of discipline. Maintain open communications with parents in regards to their child's progress and development. Cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students with health, attitude, and learning challenges. Christian Character Associate closely with God through prayer and Bible study. Be an active member of this congregation; visible through regular attendance and communion participation and evidenced by a lifestyle that reflects a dynamic relationship with Christ. Endorse the mission statement of the church. Show Christian concern for others, maintain confidences, and be an active listener. Faculty Obligations Attend the following functions: all faculty meetings, meetings related to special programs which directly involve the entire staff, parent and/or administrative conferences, and activities where the entire staff participation is expected (e.g. open house, etc.). Exercise punctuality at meetings, on arrival at school, and for returning requested information. Provide support for special areas of the total school program (e.g. chapel, student supervision, music, yearbook, sports, etc.). Participate in curriculum development and accreditation renewal. Professional Growth Strive to enhance personal instruction skills through active participation in professional organizations and associations. Attend scheduled in-service sessions and district conventions. Maintain an attitude of openness to constructive suggestions.
QUALIFICATIONS
An education bachelor's or master's degree, or a minimum of 10 years related experience is desired. Sydnodical and state teaching certification is highly preferred. A teacher who is not a Synodically trained Lutheran Teacher shall attend the Pastor's Classes and the Membership 101 class.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The job requires that the candidate be in generally good health, be able to lift up to 40 pounds, have good eyesight and hearing, the ability to communicate clearly, possess computer skills and be able to drive a vehicle.
