Position Overview:

SOL-LA Music Academy is excited to launch a new after-school music program at Valley View Elementary School, a Title I elementary school in Hollywood, with choir classes beginning September 10, 2026. We are seeking an enthusiastic and engaging Elementary Choir Teacher to lead choir classes for 1st and 2nd grade students. The ideal candidate is a skilled educator who can foster a love of singing while creating a joyful, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment. This position offers the opportunity to help establish a new program from the ground up while making a meaningful impact in the lives of young students. Additional teaching opportunities within SOL-LA—including private lessons, group classes, and other school partnerships—may be available based on the candidate's experience and interests. Key Responsibilities

• Teach weekly after-school choir classes for 1st and 2nd grade students
• Plan and prepare engaging, age-appropriate choir rehearsals
• Develop students' vocal skills, musicianship, and confidence through singing
• Introduce a diverse repertoire of music that reflects a variety of cultures and musical traditions
• Foster teamwork, creativity, and a positive classroom culture
• Prepare students for informal performances and school or community concerts
• Collaborate with SOL-LA staff and Valley View Elementary personnel
• Contribute to the continued growth and success of SOL-LA's school partnership programs

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, Choral Conducting, or equivalent experience
• Experience teaching elementary-aged students (grades K-5)
• Strong vocal musicianship and conducting skills
• Ability to create engaging, structured, and developmentally appropriate rehearsals
• Excellent classroom management and communication skills
• Passion for working with young children and fostering a lifelong love of music

Preferred:

• Experience directing elementary or youth choirs
• Familiarity with Kodály, Orff, Dalcroze, or other child-centered music education methodologies
• Experience working in diverse school communities
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required Schedule & Compensation
• Thursdays, 2:30-3:30 and 3:45-4:45 PM
• Program begins September 10, 2026
• Teachers are expected to arrive one hour before class for preparation, curriculum planning, and classroom setup
• Teaching rate: $64/hour
• Preparation stipend: $20 per teaching day
