An Elementary School Teacher teaches elementary school students, usually children ages 5 - 11 who are in kindergarten through fifth or sixth grade, in a public or private school. Teaches all subjects, including reading, writing, math, social studies and science, to one class throughout the school year. Plans curriculum and assesses student progress, manages student behavior and communicates with school parents. May specialize in teaching music, art or physical education, or teach students that are learning English, or work with students with learning disabilities or emotional and behavioral disorders.
Holy Spirit Catholic School educates students from Kindergarten through 5th grade. We are seeking dependable and flexible substitute teachers to provide classroom coverage when teachers are absent. This is a PRN, as-needed position. Substitute teachers should be comfortable being contacted on short notice and be willing to step in and support classroom routines, student learning, and school activities as needed. The ideal candidate is responsible, patient, energetic, and enjoys working with elementary-age children. Previous classroom or childcare experience is preferred but not required. Enjoys working with children and is comfortable working with a variety of ages and personalities. Able to follow lesson plans and classroom routines established by the regular teacher. Confident in maintaining a positive, safe, and respectful classroom environment. Able to appropriately redirect student behavior and maintain classroom expectations. Communicates readily through phone, text, and email. Personable, responsible, and professional. Attentive to student safety and school safety procedures at all times. Able to work independently and as part of a team. Demonstrates sound judgment in dress, communication, and general behavior. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Must pass a criminal background check and complete Diocesan Safe Environment training. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Recognize and support the unique Catholic mission of Holy Spirit Catholic School. Supervise and monitor the safety and well-being of students. Follow the classroom teacher's lesson plans, routines, and instructions. Provide instruction and assistance to students as outlined by the classroom teacher. Maintain a positive, orderly, and engaging classroom environment. Redirect inappropriate student behavior appropriately and consistently. Supervise students during classroom activities, recess, lunch, transitions, and other assigned duties. Ensure classroom and student areas are safe, clean, and orderly. Communicate with the school office or supervising staff regarding student needs, concerns, or incidents. Follow school procedures for emergencies, student dismissal, and other safety-related situations. Understand procedures for reporting suspected child abuse, child neglect, and molestation.
