Jul 1, 2026 Job Description Compass Academy, a new program at Bullitt County Schools, in partnership with Astra Behavioral Health, is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Elementary Teacher with dual certification in Special Education. This position is vital to our program, which provides a half-day academic and half-day therapeutic environment for elementary students in Bullitt County who need additional support. Our mission is to inspire and equip students to succeed in life and build the skills necessary to improve and transition back to their home elementary school.
Qualifications:
Valid Elementary Teacher certification. Valid Special Education certification (LBD/EBD) (dual certification strongly preferred). Demonstrated knowledge of differentiated instructional strategies to meet the needs of students with varying abilities and learning styles. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment with mental health professionals, school staff, and families. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities:
Facilitate the educational needs of elementary students (K-5) placed at Compass Academy. Provide academic instruction and curriculum delivery, collaborating with Astra Behavioral Health staff to promote student functioning. Work collaboratively with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or 504 Plans for each student, ensuring that treatment services align with educational goals. Maintain open communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs. Contribute to a supportive and engaging learning environment for students with diverse needs, including those with ADHD, trauma, extreme behaviors, anxiety, or internalizing behaviors. Collaborate with Astra Behavioral Health staff, including Qualified Mental Health Professionals and Mental Health Associates, to ensure integrated support. Potentially provide instruction and support for students currently receiving mental health services, coordinating with existing agencies when necessary. Participate in ongoing professional development and team discussions to enhance program effectiveness.
Program Overview:
Compass Academy is an intensive program that provides ongoing support for students during school and throughout breaks, and in the summer. The program focuses on individualized support, including the use of Community Support Associates (CSAs) with mental health training. Student transportation and meals (breakfast and lunch) are provided during school sessions. The program is committed to maintaining students' connection to their home schools. This position is for the 26-27 School Calendar for 187 school days PLUS 5 extended days. Salary based on board approved salary schedule for the 2026-2027 school year.
