Building Principal Position Summary The Long-Term Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction and maintaining continuity of the educational program for Grade 8 students during the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The successful candidate will foster a positive learning environment, deliver standards-based instruction, assess student progress, and collaborate with colleagues, parents, and administrators to support student success. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide instruction in all assigned subject areas in accordance with New York State Learning Standards and district curriculum. Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the regular classroom teacher and/or develop lesson plans as needed. Establish and maintain a safe, positive, and engaging classroom environment conducive to learning. Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of all students. Monitor, assess, and document student progress and achievement. Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student records. Utilize instructional technology and district-approved educational resources to enhance student learning. Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and administrators regarding student progress and classroom activities. Collaborate with grade-level teams, special education staff, intervention specialists, counselors, and related service providers. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development activities, parent conferences, and other school-related functions as directed. Supervise students during instructional and non-instructional periods as assigned. Follow all district policies, procedures, and student conduct expectations. Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal. Qualifications Valid New York State Teaching Certificate in Childhood Education (Grades 1-6) or appropriate certification. Knowledge of elementary instructional practices and curriculum. Strong classroom management and organizational skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Previous elementary teaching experience preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to move throughout the classroom and school environment. Ability to supervise students in various educational settings. Ability to perform the essential functions of classroom instruction and student supervision. Terms of Employment Temporary position for the duration of the regular teacher's approved leave. Compensation and benefits in accordance with Board policy, district procedures, and applicable agreements.
