Job Description

Position Summary The Elementary Classroom Teacher Long-Term Sub serves as the classroom teacher in second and third grade and will work as part of a collaborative teaching team. The teacher creates a flexible, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that supports each student's academic, social-emotional, and personal growth. Instruction reflects The Emerson School's commitment to the Project Approach, Positive Discipline, equity, belonging, and the whole child while meeting applicable state standards and school expectations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Plan and provide standards-aligned learning experiences using the Project Approach and other effective instructional practices. Develop and use developmentally appropriate instructional materials and strategies that support students with a wide range of strengths, needs, learning styles, and levels of academic, physical, social, and emotional development. Provide differentiated individual, small-group, and whole-group instruction designed to meet student needs, promote engagement, and support meaningful growth. Use Positive Discipline practices to build relationships, foster belonging, establish shared expectations, and maintain a safe and productive learning environment. Assess and document students' academic and social-emotional growth; maintain accurate and timely records; and use assessment information to help inform instruction. Provide instruction and learning activities consistent with school policies, goals, curriculum expectations, and applicable state and district requirements. Identify student needs and collaborate with colleagues, specialists, families, and other professional staff to assess and address learning, behavioral, health, and social-emotional concerns. Communicate consistently and respectfully with families through multiple means, including scheduled conferences, to share student progress and help families understand the school's program and approach. Create and maintain an organized, welcoming, culturally responsive, and effective classroom environment. Collaborate with teaching partners and other staff in planning, problem-solving, schoolwide initiatives, and shared decision-making. Participate in supervision of students during classroom, transition, field study, arrival, dismissal, and other school activities. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, school committees, community events, and student activities as assigned or appropriate. Maintain professional competence through ongoing learning, reflection, collaboration, and participation in required training and evaluation processes. Select, organize, and responsibly maintain instructional materials, classroom resources, and related inventory. Perform other duties reasonably related to the position as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, including coursework required for applicable licensure. Valid Oregon teaching license or other credential authorizing service in the assigned grade levels and subject areas, or ability to obtain the required authorization before employment. Successful student-teaching experience, teaching internship, or full-time classroom teaching experience. Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver developmentally appropriate, differentiated instruction in an elementary setting. Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and relationship-building skills. Commitment to equity, inclusion, culturally responsive practice, and the success and belonging of every student. Minimum 3-years' experience as the primary teacher in a classroom is required. Preferred Qualifications Experience as the primary classroom teacher in grades K-3, including experience in a blended or multi-age classroom. Experience with the Project Approach, project-based learning, inquiry-based instruction, or Positive Discipline. Master's degree in education or a related field. Experience collaborating with special education staff and supporting students with diverse learning needs. Work Environment and Physical Requirements This position works in an active elementary school environment and requires the ability to supervise and engage with students throughout the school day, move between learning spaces, and participate in indoor and outdoor activities and field studies.
