Under the direction and supervision of the principal or designee, this teaching position involves designing and delivering differentiated instruction aligned with gifted education standards and working collaboratively with general education teachers, parents, and administrators to support the academic and social-emotional needs of highly capable learners who have been identified through standardized screening and assessments.Essential Job Functions:
This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties: Implement education programs and instruction that address individual student learning needs. Develop a Coherence Map that outlines how Planned Enrichment Program (PEP) services will be provided, including the instructional time allocated for highly capable students. Develop lesson plans aligned with the Gifted Programming Standards that are engaging, inquiry-based so as to challenge and extend students' learning. Create a positive educational climate with high learning expectations for all students. Recognize individual student learning needs and implement differentiation strategies. Manage classroom behavior with clear parameters and consistent, respectful responses. Integrate technology in a blended learning environment to enhance student learning and collaboration. Implement Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Communicate frequently with families about the instructional program and student progress. Proctor and analyze required exams and assessments, in order to identify and facilitate the selection of students accepted. Use formative and summative assessment to modify instruction and improve student learning. Collaborate with classroom teachers to support differentiation and continuity between the PEP and general education. Assist in communication to schools and transportation regarding student schedules and relevant program information. Maintain appropriate and accurate student records, which may include grades/progress reports and student conferences. Participate in a Professional Learning Community (PLC) to use data to support student growth. Pursue professional growth through coursework, workshops, and reading. Exhibit flexibility, high-stress tolerance, reliability, punctuality, and confidentiality. Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintain a consistent presence at the assigned work site(s) and work the regular work hours specified by the contract. Professionally interact with a diverse range of colleagues, members of the public, and students. Comply with and uphold all district policies and all applicable laws; stay current with state program guidelines. Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.Desired Skills:
Demonstrate understanding and ability to implement a trauma informed learning environment where the needs of the whole child are accounted for in classroom design. Understand and apply current educational developments and instructional methodologies. Flexible in learning new concepts and adapting to a variety of assignments and conditions. Communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written forms. Display enthusiasm, optimism, and motivation towards teaching and student learning. Participate in school, district, and community events. Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds or 33% of body weight, whichever is less.Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Washington State Teaching certificate, no later than the first contracted day of the 2026/2027 school year with appropriate endorsements as required by law and regulations. Elementary Endorsement required. Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance. Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later). I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act. Completion of all district-required training within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date.Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee may be required to deal with distraught and/or angry persons and may be exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this particular environment and can vary depending upon daily activity but will remain within acceptable ranges.Evaluation:
This position shall be evaluated per the terms of the East Valley Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement. The process shall include an evaluation of the employee's performance of the above essential job functions and required skills.Classification History:
