Position Summary The English Department at Community College of Philadelphia is a professional organization of nearly 300 full and part-time faculty members teaching over 750 sections of courses each term on the Main Campus and at the Regional Centers. We provide instruction in developmental reading and writing, English as a second language (ESL), college writing, literature, communication studies, mass media, theater, and creative writing. We offer Associate of Arts degrees in Communication Studies/Mass Media, English, and Theater. Our curriculum helps prepare students for careers in broadcast and print journalism, screenwriting, public relations, advertising, education marketing, and theater. Pay Level:

$2,121.00 per credit hour Essential Responsibilities Demonstrate a sense of connection and responsibility for helping the College to achieve success through a commitment to its mission, vision, and values. Actively participate in the academic life of the College, including participation in graduation, recruitment events, general assemblies, student life activities, and other cross-functional teams. Create learning opportunities for students inside and outside of the classroom including opportunities to teach dual-enrollment high school including opportunities to teach dual-enrollment high school students. Communicate effectively, share vision, focus on people, initiate positive change, value differences, and foster collaboration. Work with and inspire others to achieve college, department, and individual success. Proactively identify/address problems. Establish an inclusive environment in the classroom. Demonstrate an understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the College's faculty, staff, and students. Full participation in the assessment of student learning and student learning outcomes at the course, program, and institution levels. Strive for excellence in teaching, applying best practices in the field of discipline, and modeling behaviors that encourage student success and retention. Utilize innovative teaching strategies and technologies for online learning and other technology tools to meet the learning needs of a diverse student population. Maintain office hours to meet with students outside of the classroom and respond to questions or concerns. Commitment to professional learning and growth, student mentoring, and service to the profession. Remain current in the use of technology, developments within the field of discipline, and developments related to teaching and student success. Required Qualifications Master's degree in English, Rhetoric, or Composition. Related degrees in Fine Arts, English Education, and Reading/Literacy may be considered. Prior teaching experience required. Experience using technology or a strong willingness to engage students through the use of technology. Available to work in person at the Main Campus, North East, North West, and West Regional Campuses. Preferred Qualifications Related work experience in the field, professional licensure and certifications, or other demonstrated competencies required for effective teaching and student learning outcomes. Experience teaching at the college level, preferably in a college writing program, or working with students in developmental English courses. Bilingual or other language proficiency. Demonstrated experience teaching diverse student populations. Demonstrated experience teaching within a community college.
