Job Summary:

The English Program at RRCC is seeking part-time instructors to teach in-person first-year composition courses. Part-time instructors assist the English Program in its mission to foster critical thinking, inspire creative expression, and empower students of all backgrounds and abilities to fully participate in a complex, literate society. Responsibilities include class preparation and instruction, grade and record keeping, student communication and support outside of scheduled class time, timely communication with peers and supervisors, and participation in department meetings when possible. This position reports to the English Program's Adjunct Coordinator. Instruction primarily includes face-to-face delivery, but may include online components, including use of online platforms (D2L) and OER materials. Classes may be held during the day, evenings, and/or on weekends. It may require hours outside of a normal work schedule. This position may work up to 28 hours per week, depending on budget and need. To preserve the quality of instruction, faculty and instructor workload shall not exceed 21 credit hours per semester system-wide without prior approval.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution with 18 graduate hours in English, rhetoric/composition, creative writing, literature, or related field (NOT including Education).

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in rhetoric/composition or English Experience teaching at the college level Experience teaching visual/digital literacy alongside traditional reading and writing Experience teaching media and AI literacy Current scholarship in the field of rhetoric/composition Current professional development in culturally responsive pedagogy Physical & Cognitive Demands The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position. Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs. This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc. The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills. This is a part-time, FLSA exempt position and may work up to 28 hours per week, depending on budget and need. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
