Mission:

The Institute for Labor Studies & Research (ILSR) provides education and training that enables working Rhode Islanders and the labor movement to have a stronger voice in the workplace, to participate more effectively in the changing global economy, and to create a more just and equitable society. Position Summary ILSR is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Instructor to provide English instruction to adult learners at a variety of proficiency levels, from beginning to advanced. The ESOL Instructor will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, learner-centered English language instruction that supports students in developing their speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and workplace communication skills. The instructor will work with students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and goals. Essential Responsibilities Plan and deliver effective lessons for students at beginning, intermediate, and advanced proficiency levels. Assess students' English language skills and provide instruction appropriate to their individual levels and learning goals. Develop engaging classroom activities and instructional materials that promote practical English communication. Integrate real-life and workplace-related English skills into classroom instruction when appropriate. Provide opportunities for students to develop confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback and additional support as needed. Maintain accurate attendance, student progress, assessment, and other required records. Create a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds. Collaborate with Institute staff and other instructors to support student success. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and other program activities as required. Maintain current knowledge of effective teaching strategies and adult education practices. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Education, English, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field. TESOL, TEFL, ESL, or other relevant teaching certification. Previous experience teaching

ESOL/ELL

Experience working with students across multiple English proficiency levels. Strong understanding of adult learning principles and differentiated instruction. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment. Cultural awareness and sensitivity when working with students from diverse backgrounds. Proficiency in using online platforms including Google Workspace, Email, and Zoom Proficiency with basic technology and online instructional tools. Preferred Skills The ideal candidate will be: Patient, encouraging, and approachable. Creative and adaptable in their teaching approach. Comfortable teaching both beginning and advanced English learners. Able to connect classroom instruction to students' everyday, educational, and workplace needs.
